Author Guidelines

• Instructions for the Submission of Papers

Papers are to be sent in letter-sized or A4 sheets, in triplicate and with broad margins. Every page must be numbered. The articles have a maximum length of 6000 words and a minimum of 3000. Summaries of books must have between 500 and 1000 words, including notes and bibliography. Graphics and illustrations if any, will conform to references contained in the text and may not exceed the proportion of written text. The publisher reserves the right to reduce the number of illustrations with the prior consent of the author.

Electronic Delivery: At a first stage, for evaluation purposes, a hard copy may be delivered, either in CD or DVD, or the file may be e-mailed. Microsoft Word files will be accepted. They are to be sent to the e-mail address to be designated in each call with the subject line reading “ANNALS of the IAA”.

• Acceptance Procedures and Evaluation Policy:

The acceptance of a paper for publication entails the transference of copyrights in favor of the journal. The authors do keep the right to use the material in future books or publications and to approve or veto the re-publication of their work, as well as any rights derived from patents or other proprietary rights.

The revision of every article will be carried out by two expert evaluators who will give advice on the publication thereof. Evaluators are preferably professors and doctors belonging to national and international research institutions, or authors who have published more than two articles in the journal and have earned a post-graduate degree.

The revision by the evaluators is carried out on a double-blind basis, so that the identity of the authors remains occult to evaluators, and vice versa.

The names and e-mail addresses introduced in this journal will be exclusively used for the purposes declared by this journal and will not be available for any other purpose or person.

The decisive evaluation standards will mainly focus on the interest of the topic, the depth and innovation in the discussion thereof, the knowledge of the state of the matter, the dialogue with the most relevant and updated bibliography, the unity, clarity, coherence, equity and rigor of the argumentation, the pertinence of its title, its summary and key words, the proportionate extension of the text and its notes, and its literary quality.

Authors will be notified of the acceptance, rejection or required revision of the paper together with the feedback of evaluators. Once the article is accepted, a hard copy and a CD or DVD with the text file and separate files for graphics will be required to proceed with its publication. After publication, the author will receive two copies of the journal.

Note: any papers not conforming to the standards described in this document will be returned to their authors so as to make any relevant modifications prior to the evaluation thereof.

• Data to Be Included and General Typographical Matters:

Below the title of the work –to be indicated both in Spanish and English-, together with the name of the author, there must appear the institution or body to which they belong, their domicile and e-mail address. In the case of several authors, one mailing counterparty only will be mentioned. At the end of the article there will be a brief biographical note of each author, including academic training (graduate and post-graduate degrees), institutional adscription (university field or other location where they perform their research and teaching tasks). Likewise, they may include any relevant and/or recent publications that they may wish to include (no more than three).

The text must be written in Arial 11 font size and format, with single spacing and no indentation. Sections are to be headed with subtitles, not with numbers. Subtitles of first order are to be indicated in bold, those of second order in italics and those of third order, if any, in normal characters. Any words or expressions required to be emphasized should go between inverted commas, and any foreign words and the titles of books must appear in italics.

Any other detail not contemplated herein will have to conform to the APA (American Psychological Association) Standards, available on the IAA’s website, section Publications / ANNALS (http://www.iaa.fadu.uba.ar/?page_id=3749).

• Quotes and Bibliographic References:

Textual quotes of less than 40 words are to be included in the same paragraph by identifying the text quoted by means of double inverted commas. Single inverted commas are only used for a quote within another larger one. Textual quotes of more than 40 words are to be written in a separate paragraph, without inverted commas, with continuous indentation (either French or indented). It is advisable to quote in the original language. If this is different from the language of the article, its translation is to be added right afterwards between square brackets.

Remissions to bibliographic references are to be made by means of the author-date system, with the surname of the author followed by the year of publication and the number of pages, everything in round brackets, for example (Bohm, 1968, p. 140). Sometimes it is appropriate to place the name of the author outside the brackets, as a part of the phrase, so that the discourse becomes more fluid. These references are used whenever making a quote or a paraphrasing.

Notes: notes may be used whenever the author wishes to expand a concept or add a comment without interrupting the continuity of the discourse. Notes are never to be used to make a reference to bibliography. Remissions to notes are to be indicated in the text by means of a supra index. Any section containing notes is to be placed at the end of the paper, before the bibliographic references.

Figures and tables: figures may be drawings or photos. For evaluation purposes, please send the graphics and tables in paper or in low resolution electronic format, included in the Word file. The publication of the final version of the article will, only then, require the following electronic files or a hard copy of a quality suitable for reproduction: originals (to be returned to the authors after publication), laser copies or photos in bright paper.

For the stage of publication, electronic files acceptable for graphics and figures (images in general) are JPG and TIFF, with a resolution of 300 dpi to the final size of printing (it is recommended not to send any files smaller than 18 x 18 cm). Figures must appear in black and white. Graphics must not be inserted in the .doc file in this second stage.

Tables may be made in Word or Excel. If graphic material protected by copyright is being reproduced, the corresponding written authorization must be obtained and presented jointly with the paper.

Both figures and tables are to be numbered and bear explanatory captions stating their source. They must be presented separately by stating the number of figure with an underscore followed by the name of the author.

Bibliographic Reference: is the list of bibliography that corresponds to textual references. Any sources not appearing referenced in the text but whose supplementary reading is recommended will have to be included under the title “Bibliography”.

Bibliographic references should be structured in alphabetical order as per the surnames of the authors, and by following these examples:

Books:

Surname of the author, initials of the name. (Year of publication). Title of the book. City, Country: Publishing company.

Several titles of the same author: if listing more than one work by the same author, those works are to be listed in chronological order from the oldest one and the author’s surname or name should not be repeated.

If listing several works by the same author published in the same year, any works subsequent to the first one should be identified with the addition of a letter by alphabetical order. For example: 1984a, 1984b, etc.

Translation: if using a translated edition, the name of the translator or the translators and all the data of the translated material should be written in brackets. 

Re-edition: if the edition used is not the original one, before the year of the edition being used, the year of the original edition is stated between square brackets. Reference in the text should be made to that year.

Surname of the author, initials of the name. ([Year of original] year of edition used). Title of the book. (Name and surname of the translator/s, Transl.). City, Country: Publishing company.

Several authors: in case of two authors, these are separated by commas. In case of more than two authors, the names are separated with a comma and between the second last and last names “and” should be included. All the authors must be mentioned, whenever they are fewer than six. Stated for the first time in quotes within the text should be all the names and, in the subsequent mentions, the surname of the first author followed by the phrase “et al”, with no cursive letters. Whenever the number of authors is more than seven, this latter resource is the one to be used since the very first mention thereof.

An article published in an anthology or a chapter of a book:

Surname of the author, initials of the name. (Year). Title of the article-chapter. In Name and Surname of the editor (Ed.), Title of the book. (pp. xx-xx). City, Country: Publishing company.

Article published in a journal:

Surname of the author, initials of the name. (year). Title of the article. Name of the Journal, 00 (0), xx-xx.

Article published in a newspaper:

Surname of the author, initials of the name. (year, day and month). Title of the article. Name of the newspaper, pp. xx-xx.

Lecture published on the minutes of a congress: the sample is similar, but it should include the place and date in which the congress was held. Please note in the example that the year appearing after the author is that of the congress, for the year of publication may be later.

Surname of the author, initials of the name. (year). “Title of the lecture”. In Title of the Congress, City, Country: Institution.

Unpublished Thesis:

Surname of the author, initials of the name. (year). Title of the Thesis. (unpublished doctoral Thesis). City, Country: Institution.

Unpublished Material: with specification of origin.

Ancient Authors: use the abbreviations “a.” (ante), “p.” (post), “c.” (circa), “i.” (inter) or “n.d.” (no date).

Articles available online: if the article is published on paper and online, please indicate the corresponding data and also the corresponding web page together with the date of retrieval.
