Abstract

The editorial of TRP21 Issue 7 frames this volume as an act of resistance, memory, and continuity. Originally conceived in 2019, the issue was delayed by the global pandemic and a series of structural and contextual difficulties that prevented its publication at the intended time. The emergence of artificial intelligence in 2023 further complicated its temporal position, making the contents appear, at first glance, out of sync with the present. Rather than concealing this delay, the editorial embraces it as part of the issue’s meaning.

The volume is presented both as a gesture of responsibility toward the authors who entrusted their work to the journal and as a document of an unstable historical moment marked by crisis, uncertainty, and perseverance. The metaphor of the phoenix is explicitly invoked to describe this issue as a rebirth, signalling the beginning of a renewed editorial phase rather than a retrospective closure.

The editorial introduces a heterogeneous set of contributions that engage with synthetic imagery, biomaterials, biomanufacturing, experimental projects, artistic practices, and reflections on natural and technological processes. Together, these works reinforce a transversal approach that connects design, art, biology, and emerging technologies. The text concludes by acknowledging the collective effort behind the issue—particularly the editorial design work—and by reaffirming the journal’s commitment to exploring new conceptual and disciplinary horizons.
